IE Official’s Swim Club: What to Know

Latest

Many don’t know but IE has an official Swim Club. This club was first started in 2019 by the Master students before the IE tower was constructed in 2021. However, the club was inactivated as the students who started it graduated. Last September, two students decided to reactivate the club as the swimming pool at the tower was available for use. They began collecting signatures and ended up getting enough to restart the club. Their efforts paid off, and the club was officially approved, making its debut at this year’s club fair.

This club is designed for all Bachelor and Master students interested in swimming. It accommodates all types of swimmers from beginners to more experienced. The club practices two times a week. For those with afternoon classes, a session is held on Mondays from 12:00 to 1:00 PM. Alternatively, a Wednesday session is held from 4:00 to 5:00 PM catering to students with morning classes.

In October, the swimming club had the unique opportunity to compete in Milan at the Bocconi International Sports Tournament 2024. This was a significant milestone in the club’s journey as it was the first sports tournament IE has participated in. IE University competed with Bocconi University and Politecnico di Milano and received third place. The competition was for the basketball, swimming, volleyball, and cheerleading teams. The swimming club included six members of the team; three men and three women. The energy, the competition, and the teamwork were unreal. “The competition, the energy, and the sense of unity were unlike anything we’ve experienced before. It was an honor to represent IE on a global scale,” one participant commented after the event. As they look forward to the next competition, they keep practicing every week. Furthermore, this club has greater goals for the future than merely training and tournaments. The club wants to foster an exciting swimming community where members can connect over their love of the sport while encouraging each other’s mental and physical health. One eager member says, “I’ve always found that swimming helps me deal with stress, and this club is a great way to balance academics and fitness.”
