The Hay Festival Kicks Off in Segovia

SEGOVIA – The Hay Festival will continue today in Segovia and at the IE campus. The Hay Festival is a series of lectures and exhibitions that discuss a wide variety of fields from arts, politics, to gastronomy. The events will be held throughout the province of Segovia, with many being in the capital of Segovia proper.

The festival officially started on September 9, with isolated lectures on the 14th and 18th of September. The density of the programs will increase starting today however, Thursday the19th of September.

Today, there will be four events today from scattered around Segovia proper.Although none of the events are in the IE campus, the locations are accessible to students either by foot or through a short bus ride utilizing Segovia’s Urbanos bus. There will be two lectures on history and writing starting at 18:00 at  Segovia’s public library. There will be a lectures about writing and music at the Teatro Juan Bravo and La Alhóndiga.

Friday there are many events which will touch on a variety of topics. There will be a few events at the Teatro Juan Bravo, La Alhóndiga and the IE campus, but there will also be garden discussions (Jardín Romeral de San Marcos) and open air readings in the Plaza Major. As well, there are events not just in English and Spanish, but also in French.

Saturday and Sunday offer much the same as Friday in terms of variety, however at a much denser proportion. It is recommended that attendees plan out their schedule as to ensure that they do not miss their chance to enjoy the Hay Festival events.

The Hay Festival offers students an excellent opportunity to learn about topics which are not taught in the conventional classroom setting. If you are looking to expand your horizons or to become more artistic, the Hay Festival and its vast selection of speakers are likely to inspire, or at the very least present you with ideas or convictions which are unique and worthy of your consideration.
