As a member of IE University’s community at the Segovia campus, you’re surely getting used to, or already have gotten used to, what living in the provincial capital of CyL is like. It is brimful of hidden gems: its enigmatic main square, Plaza Mayor, hosts citizens and tourists alike at its local bars and pastry shops, whilst extending streets such as Isabel la Católica and Juan Bravo boast numerous shops offering a number of artisan goods, ideal for a day of shopping.

Home to so much culture and history, our mingling international outlooks often blur the essence of this city. We find ourselves gravitating towards the multinational shops we know and love, like Bershka, Zara, or Flying Tiger; let me tell you, this is normal. You can find these popular businesses in Segovia, but why not go beyond them and explore local, more authentic ones? Ranging from food stores to nick-nack stores, you’re bound to find something in a place like Segovia.

Let’s take a stroll down these popular locations and unearth local Segovian commerce!

Confitería el Alcázar (Bakery/Pastry shop)

Location: Pl. Mayor, 13

Here you’ll find authentic, local treats right in the heart of Segovia. Grab a rosquilla with a café con leche, or enjoy some traditional violet candies while admiring the beautiful cathedral. Make sure you try out their speciality, ponche segoviano.
