Officer Kayla Vinh of the Madrid Chapter of IE Fashion Club described IE Fashion Club best when she said “fashion club is dedicated to empowering individuals to explore and embrace their unique sense of style, we aim to create a community where creativity and self-expression thrive.”
IE Fashion Club is a fun space for students to explore their love for all things fashion! The Fashion Club hosts various events ranging from clothing drives for charity to career talks with professionals in the field. In alignment with IE University values of sustainability, IE Fashion Club has begun to organize workshops to learn to upcycle clothes and host open dialogue conversations surrounding sustainability within the fashion industry.
Unlike most clubs at IE University, the Fashion Club has separate divisions for Madrid and Segovia. The club does this so that students do not have to travel as far to go to all the events, and the club can have two separate officer groups for each city. This makes it easier for club members to easily contact officers and it makes it easier for officers to be more in tune with what members want. Because of this division, the Fashion Club at both campuses looks a little different.
Segovia Fashion Club
Segovia is a growing campus at IE University that caters to undergraduate students, and the Fashion Club there reflects this. Each year Segovia Fashion Club hosts its opening event: a picnic in the hills for members to get to know each other. Segovia events tend to be more social because the students at the Segovia Campus are more focussed on building community, as the majority of the student population are in their first two years of university. Segovia is a place for those who already love fashion to share their love and knowledge with people who are just discovering a passion for fashion.
With the Creativity Center in Segovia, the Fashion Club is able to host various workshop events and courses in fashion related disciplines such as sewing and crocheting. With the Segovia Fashion Club, members get the opportunity to learn new skills and make some new connections along the way.
Madrid Fashion Club
Madrid Fashion Club is a unique place where both masters and undergraduate students can come together for various events. Because Madrid is more career-oriented and focused more on the upperclassmen, it tends to have more professional events with experts in the field. In the past some of their events have included a career panel with LVMH employees and an office tour of Loewe. For their biggest event this year – the club went to Vogue Fashion Night Out in September. It was an amazing outdoor event hosted by Vogue where many brands had popups and they had a live concert as well!
While the Fashion Club does have separate chapters for both Madrid and Segovia campuses, students from all campuses can attend any event from either chapter. For larger events buses are provided by the university for transportation to and from the event giving students the opportunity to meet people from other campuses!
Future of Fashion at IE University
With a new Bachelors of Fashion Design program at IE University, the IE Fashion Club is only going to grow. But as the club grows, Officer Vinh says she wants to keep Fashion Club as “an inclusive space where members can discover the joy of fashion, collaboration, and art.” It will be exciting to see what the future holds for IE Fashion Club, but only time will tell.
