There are quite a few voices in the international sphere which coincide that Covid-19 is reshaping our world and how we work together in it. It is in this context that IE University celebrates the first iteration of a virtual Model United Nations (MUN) conference from the 10th to the 11th  of October: IEUMUN 2020. Hosting this first-ever event online guarantees the fulfillment of the security and sanitary measures of being able to join from homes around the world, and at the same time the complete enjoyment of the MUN experience.

A MUN debate is a simulation of the work done in a United Nations committee, in which each delegate seeks to defend one country’s stance regarding the topic at hand. In this conference, there will be three committees: the UN Security Council on the topic of the crisis in Yemen, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees on protective measures for refugees in a post-pandemic world, and the UN Environment Program on low carbon and climate-resilient development in developing countries.

Not only will delegates be providing solutions to current crises like the one in Yemen, but they will also be directly helping the people living under those circumstances with their delegate fees: all proceeds of the conference will be donated to the Red Cross to assist in the crisis in Yemen and provide relief-aid for Beirut. We will be hosting a workshop with an expert in foreign policy, and one on MUN procedure with our experienced chairs before the conference, so that all of the delegates come fully prepared to make the most out of the committee sessions. Additionally, the best delegates and position papers will be obtaining unique prizes.

Given the international profile of IE and its multicultural experience, it is such an exciting opportunity to be hosting one of the first virtual MUN conferences. Applications for delegates will be open to students passionate about international diplomacy from around the world through the 30th of September. Dare to join the action of IEUMUN 2020 by accessing the application through the conference’s website at ieumun.com and stay up to date with conference information by following the conference’s Instagram @ieu.mun2020
